Portrait Parade
is a live photography experience – part urban adventure, part fashion shoot, part performance art. Participants collaborate to create one-of-a-kind portraits that transform city streets into stages of self-expression. Not a photo booth - this is where street photography meets art and creativity.
I have a studio / Gallery in the heart of Denver's Santa-Fe arts district which has a very popular First Friday Arts walk. Often I will take advantage of this situation by setting up a unique scene and asking people to pose for me.
I love giving my subjects the freedom to interpret and inhabit the scenes I create. By providing props and backgrounds, I allow them to develop their own characters, stories, and meanings within the space. What I enjoy most about Portrait Parade is its collaborative nature—I offer minimal direction but focus on making my subjects feel comfortable and open. Together, we create fun and unique portraits. The results are never what I initially envision, but by letting them shape the scene and embracing their contributions, we end up with images far more interesting than anything I could have imagined alone.

I really enjoy letting my subjects interpret and inhabit the scene I build and allowing them to create their own characters, stories and meaning from the props and backgrounds I provide. What I like most about the Portrait Parade is how collaborative it is. I give little direction but make every attempt to have my subjects comfortable and open and together we create fun and unique portraits. The photos never turn out as I expect but by letting my subjects inhabit the scene, and taking what they give me, together we produce images much better than anything I could have on my own.
